Spotlight On: Animal Print

Animal print never really goes out of fashion, instead, it is the type of animal, the size and colour of the print that may vary from season to season. Another thing to consider is which item of clothing or accessory the print may be on. If you buy a leopard print shirt for example, you may find it dates far quicker and isn’t as wearable as a pair of shoes or bag.

Right now, monochrome animal print and more muted variations in chocolate brown and cream are preferred. Black and white zebra and cowhide prints will bring a punchier new season energy to your wardrobe – my favourites include Bimba Y Lola’s ankle boots that are firmly on my wish list and Mango’s 90’s shoulder bag is a no-brainer you will wear time and time again. When it comes to clothing softer, creamy-based prints such as Ganni’s signature leopard print jeans and the Realisation Par maxi dress are items worth investing in.

The key to styling all of these is to keep the rest of the outfit clean and paired back. Instead of fussy jewellery choose one statement piece such a pair of solid sculptural metal earrings or a chunky gold chain. Denim and solid colours are always a good idea when styling animal print clothing and when in doubt my default is a simple white tee.
